Activities in Coachella

Everyone knows that Coachella is a great music festival that brings pretty much every class of artist and musician, and every type of lover of the arts also.

Yet, if you ask around for the other activities to take part in while at Coachella, you typically don’t hear a lot of responses. That’s certainly not because the Coachella Valley is lacking for events, nightlife or breathtaking scenery. It isn’t!

Sometimes you just have to chalk it up to the fact that everyone is having such a good time listening to the music that they forget to check out the rest of the region.

If you aren’t familiar with outdoor venues, you might think that the only thing to do is go stand in a thick crowd of other music fans and watch bands on stage. You are definitely in for a pleasant surprise when you realize exactly how much outdoor music festivals like Coachella have to offer to their patrons.

You could walk the festival grounds for the entire day and still won’t be able to take in all of the sights and activities that are part of the Coachella experience.

What About The Art?

Coachella is a music and arts festival, hence the beautiful art exhibitions that are pretty difficult to miss while you’re inside the concert grounds. Coachella attracts artists, both novice and world-renowned, from all corners of the globe.

You could spend hours walking around the exhibits getting lost in the paintings, sculptures, and other mediums from these fantastic artists. As a matter of fact, lots of people do just that.  Be sure to check out the exhibits while you’re at Coachella, some of these displays have been made only for Coachella, which means it is literally a once in a lifetime experience to be had.

While you are enjoying the Coachella experience, don’t forget to do The Do Lab. Basically, the DJ plays some tracks while the audience is hosed down. It doesn’t sound all that awesome in writing but if you take part in it at midday, you’ll wish you could beat the heat this way every day of your life. What’s better than a refreshing hose blast to combat the brutal sun as you have tracks thumping in the background? I’ll wait…………

Feeling Hungry?

After you get cooled down, you should take this opportunity to wander around for a bite to eat. When it comes to food stands and food trucks, the best of the best make the trip to Coachella to have the pleasure of serving you the finest of their foods. Everything from fish tacos and corn dogs to shortcake and ice-cream, if it is made and served in a food truck, you can find and eat it here.

Great food that you can get all around Coachella.

Don’t think because it is traveling food that it isn’t up to par. Some of the food truck cuisines are 5-star quality, and you would be foolish to pass up this delicious side of Coachella just because the kitchen has wheels.

There is a little bit of everything in regards to food being served at Coachella, and if you are game enough to try some of it, you would more than likely find yourself waddling around the festival grounds feeling very full and being quite happy with yourself.

Just like this guy…

Full of Great food and still partying!

Not all of the Coachella music festival activities take place near the stages. There is an entire valley that opens its doors wide for the festival attendees, and you should try to see more than just the stages and booths while you’re in the Coachella Valley.

Where Should You Go?

The River at Rancho Mirage is a nice glance at the scenery Coachella Valley offers, while being laden with restaurants, shops, and a lovely theatre. You can stroll along the river walk, enjoy a beverage, and grab a bite at any one of the fantastic restaurants.

The view of the river is absolutely magnificent, especially at dusk when the valley lights start coming on and illuminating the river.

Palm Canyon Drive is another spectacular viewpoint, that if at all possible, you should catch a glimpse of. It is the home of fabulous restaurants, a lovely walk of fame, galleries, and remarkable mid-century modern architecture, but the best part is the view of the drive alone.

Palm Canyon Drive is lined with palm trees (obviously), yet as you gaze further down the roadway, you’ll see stunning snow-capped mountains in the distance. Which is truly a spectacle to behold.

Beautiful palm trees along the road.

While you and your friends are still out taking in all of the scenery of the valley, another must-see is the Coachella Valley Vista Point.

Full of hairpin turns and a virtual sidewinding drive to the top of the point, it overlooks the San Andreas fault and all of the Coachella Valley. If you have the freedom to go at dusk, please do so. The lights from the cars make it an unimaginable view you won’t soon forget, but don’t try to navigate this vista after dark if you don’t have some experience with it. It can be terrifying if you take a hairpin turn too quickly without knowing what type of drop you nearly made.

To wrap up your tour of Coachella Valley, visit the Shields Date Garden. It is almost a century old and is a 1960’s style date grove and botanical garden. Try a date shake! Taste the varieties of dates that they grow on-site. Visit the award-winning cafe where, yep, you guessed it, the majority of the recipes include dates.

I’m learning about important dates in history. Wanna be one of them?

The part of the Shields Date Garden that really stands out is the fact that there are 23 handcrafted statues of Christ on the grounds of the date grove and botanical gardens. Go see this trip back in time for yourself.

Why don’t you make a date of it?…..

I’m A Bit Thirsty After All Of That!

Now, as you make your way back toward the festival grounds, why don’t you stop into Heineken House. You can enjoy a cold Heineken while beating the desert heat. House music is being pumped out by a DJ as you taste this great liquid gift from Holland. It has a cool atmosphere to relax for a few minutes and have a cold one after a long day of seeing the sights.

Once you and you’re best friends are back at the festival, there is an exquisite assortment of beer gardens that still have great views of the stages, so if you want to relax and have a couple more brews, you don’t have to miss out on any of the action. It can give you a break from the crowd, and a chance to cool off while not missing any of your favourite shows.

Need A Reminder Of Your Amazing Day?

The vendors and merchandise shops that have set up all along the festival grounds sell just about everything!

From concert tees, to mini paintings on postcards, to pyrex statues. If you’re looking for anything Coachella Valley related, you will find it at one of these merchandise stands without an issue. Be sure to get your souvenirs and concert tees on the first day though!

Typically, the vendors start selling out of the most popular wares within the first few hours of the festival grounds being opened. If you wait until the last night, chances are you’re going to be going home empty-handed.

On the final night, there is a breathtakingly huge fireworks display that takes place. These aren’t sparklers and bottle rockets, this is serious business. So just in case you were thinking of leaving the music festival early because you’re all partied out or to try and beat the traffic, make sure to stay for this one last stunning lightshow.

Now to wrap in up, in a nice little bow.

While Coachella Music and Arts Festival never ceases to amaze it’s patrons, neither will it’s beautiful surroundings. With a plethora of activities to keep people of all ages entertained and engaged, you will never be left short of things to do. So while you and your friends, both old and new found ones, take your time enjoying the music festival itself, make sure to enjoy the rest of the amazing treats that Coachella Valley has in store for you also!
